Including native and non-native speakers, about 180 million people speak German. While Italy, France, and Belgium, and Denmark have some German-speaking areas, German is mainly spoken in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. German is a Germanic language. It is also one of the few inflected languages spoken in Western Europe. German holds the record for having the most works of literature translated out of it.
